The Grease Litter — The Journey of Life Has Begun 🎬💕

On 5th August, Lola and Regency Red's Ralph had their honeymoon, and from that moment an extraordinary little journey may have begun. Tomorrow, 3rd September, we reach the next exciting milestone — Lola’s pregnancy scan. ❤️

If Lola is pregnant, she is now around four weeks from mating, and although there still isn't much to see from the outside, an incredible amount has already been happening inside her.

In those first days, fertilisation takes place and the tiny developing embryos begin their journey towards the uterus. Over the following weeks they implant into the uterine lining and the placentas begin developing, creating that vital connection between Lola and each growing puppy.

🌱 Where is Lola now?

Right now, the embryos are becoming recognisably puppy-shaped. Their major organs and body systems are developing, their little limbs are forming and their hearts are beating. They are still incredibly tiny, but this is a period of very rapid development.

And Lola's body knows exactly what it's doing.

We've already noticed some of those subtle changes — she's been sleepier, incredibly cuddly and clingy, and definitely more interested in her food! These are all things we often watch for at this stage, although only tomorrow's scan will tell us whether our Grease babies really are there.

🐶 What happens next?

If tomorrow brings the news we're hoping for, the next few weeks are when things really start to change.

During weeks 5 and 6, those tiny embryos become foetuses and begin looking much more like puppies. Toes develop, little claws start forming, their facial features become clearer and their coats begin developing. Their growth starts accelerating dramatically.

This is also when Lola's nutritional needs will gradually increase. We'll begin transitioning her onto a high-quality puppy food so she receives the extra energy and nutrients she needs as the puppies grow — without simply overfeeding her.

By weeks 6–7, we should start seeing more physical changes in Lola. Her tummy may become noticeably rounder, her mammary glands will develop further and she'll need plenty of rest alongside her normal gentle exercise.

And inside? The puppies will be growing fast. 

❤️ The final weeks

By weeks 7–8, the puppies are much more developed and the majority of their remaining growth is about getting bigger and stronger.

This is when Lola's belly can really blossom. As space becomes limited, we'll divide her food into smaller, more frequent meals and let her dictate the pace of her walks and rest.

Later in pregnancy, we may even reach that magical moment when we can feel or see tiny movements through Lola's tummy. That's when it suddenly becomes very real.

Then comes week 9.

Lola will begin preparing instinctively for birth — resting more, nesting and wanting to be close to us. We'll be watching her carefully and preparing everything for the arrival of her babies.

From one little honeymoon with Ralph on 5th August, to cells dividing, hearts beginning to beat, tiny paws forming and eventually a litter of beautiful puppies arriving into the world...

 

That's the journey of life.
